June 9 date set by anonymous for Occupy Protest in India

Occupy protest
Protests over blocking of websites are likely to become strident with hacktivist group Anonymous planning demonstrations in 11 cities on June 9 for restoring internet freedom. The group had targeted government sites and corporate websites after several file and link sharing sites were blocked by authorities and internet service providers (ISPs) recently.

Soon, it announced 'occupy' protests in various cities on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter. The FB pages of the 'occupy' protests and Twitter pages of Anonymous are gaining support from netizens with many signing up to reach venues wearing Guy Fawkes masks. "Internet is the only free media we have. Censoring it will mean that free speech is not possible any more," a message given by anonymous on a recently hacked website

If the curbs on internet are not lifted, there will be more attacks on government sites, the group said. "Most of them will be internet-based, but we will protest on the ground if need be," said another member. Just like the 'occupy movement' in the US, which started as 'Occupy Wall Street' and then spread to more than 20 locations, this could also become bigger if the curbs are not lifted, the member said.

Emphasising that the protests will be peaceful and no harm will be done to public, the group said that they targeted the website of Trinamool Congress recently because a professor was arrested for sharing a cartoon on Mamata Banerjee(senior political minister). "A democratic government doesn't have to fear us," a member said. "We are protesting to show that people can unite without anything in common and move towards a common cause," they said. As for their identity, another member said: "We do not have a country, a face, a name or even an identity. We represent only our cause."

Asked if they fear a crackdown by the authorities, the group said, "They can't stop the protests. Peaceful protest is our fundamental right. Their reaction is always for their benefit, they don't take any action for the people. If they fear us, they will try their best." Protests will be held in Mumbai, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Indore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kochi, Kozhikode, Nagpur and Pune. Chennai and a city in Uttar Pradesh are likely to join.

Indian Chess players Viswanathan Anand Won his 5th World title!!!

Viswanathan Anand of India on Wednesday beat Israel's Boris Gelfand in tie breaker to retain world title for the fifth time. Anand clinched the tie-breaker 2.5-1.5.
After drawing on Monday the final regular match in their 12-game Moscow series to leave the world championships level, the two
grandmasters were forced into the chess equivalent of a football penalty shootout.

Dubbed the "Battle of the Armageddon" in chess circles, Wednesday's match saw two of the finest players the world has ever seen lock horns in up to 15 thrilling speed chess games to determine the world champion.

Gelfand and Anand drew the first game of the tie-break but the Indian then recorded a nailbiting victory while playing white in the second game amid huge tension at the host venue of the Tretyakov art gallery in Moscow.

The Israeli was in all sorts of trouble at the start of game one despite playing first with the white pieces but pulled himself out of jail with a series of brilliant moves.

Game two initially appeared to have a similar pattern, as Gelfand used all his defensive resources to repel a series of attacks by the Indian champion.

V. Anand or Anand Viswanathan, usually referred to as Viswanathan Anand born 11 December 1969) is an Indian chess Grandmaster and the current World Chess Champion. Anand has won the World Chess Championship five times (2000, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012), and has been the undisputed World Champion since 2007.

Anonymous hacks BJP(Indian political party) websites, wants people to protest against 'web censorship'!

A day after messing with servers maintained by Reliance Communications, Anonymous, an international hacker collective, defaced two websites belonging to BJP on Sunday. Through its Twitter account (@opindia_back) it announced thatwww.mumbaibjp.org andwww.bjpmp.org.in were hacked by the group. After the hacking, the group posted a message to web users, asking them to organize protests against "web censorship" in India on June 9.

While the message was displayed on the homepage of www.mumbaibjp.org, onwww.bjpmp.org.in it was inserted as a page atbjpmp.org.in/ads/anon.html. On Mumbai BJP website the message was accompanied by a catchy tune embedded through a YouTube link.
Guy Fawkes masks

"Today they took away your right to use a few websites... day after tomorrow they will take away your freedom of speech and no one will be there to speak for you. Speak Now or Never," the message read. The hackers said that people should print out or buy Guy Fawkes Masks and wear them while protesting against web censorship in Bangalore, Mangalore, Kochi, Chennai, Vizag, Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad on June 9.

The Ion, who is likely a part of Anonymous and who uses @ProHaxor alias on Twitter, added, "BJP are the opposition they should have stopped this or should have organised a protest they did not do any."

Incidentally, CERT-IN, the nodal agency in India for monitoring security and hacking incidents within the country's cyberspace, said in a report on Sunday that hackers are targeting Indian websites. "It is observed that some hacker groups are launching Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks on websites of government and private organizations in India," the report said and asked network administrators to keep vigil.

Anonymous hackers target social sites on Indian ISP's

Hacker group Anonymous OpIndia attacked ISP (Internet Service Provider)Reliance Communications on Friday night and Saturday. Users of the service who tried to access popular websites like Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo and G mail instead saw a message from anonymous hackers announcing their protest against their "freedom being taken away".

The attack on Reliance Communications was triggered when Anonymous found its Twitter account had been blocked.
Anonymous V/S Indian govt.

Among other things, the message displayed to Reliance users said, "We tried to do a slow, non-violent protest and government decided to cover our mouths. We will not sit idle while our freedom is taken away. When we started to speak the truth, the government of India forced our online Twitter account @Opindia_revenge to be suspended".

The message went on to attack private organizations, the government, opposition parties as well as and the media. However, it also had links to redirect users to the site they were trying to access. Releasing admin logs from servers they hacked at http://pastehtml.com/view/bz8kycy0o.html, Anonymous OpIndia alleged that Reliance had blocked certain web pages, including the Facebook pages of staff protesting against Air India.

"We have investigated the matter and confirm that all R-Com servers and websites are intact and have required preventive measures in place for intrusions," said a Reliance Communications spokesperson.

Anonymous OpIndia also issued an ultimatum to the government to unblock all file-sharing websites as well as any other website that might have been restricted by ISPs and the government. The group has set up a Facebook page titled 'Occupy India #protest for internet freedom (File Sharing Websites Blocked)', which calls for a physical protest next month.

Indian supreme court and congress deny attacks, Indian youth satisfied with anonymous's action

On a day the government said in the Rajya Sabha it would build consensus on rules for controlling internet content, an international hacking group reportedly breached the websites of the ruling Congress and the Supreme Court of India.

The Delhi Bar Council also claimed that its website was defaced by unidentified hackers. Hacker group Anonymous is believed to have attacked the websites in response to the Centre blocking torrent portal Pirate Bay and video-sharing Vimeo. The group is said to have launched “MT Operation India” to protest the government's censorship plan. While both the Congress and SC admitted their sites  were down for sometime, they denied the sites were hacked.

“The site is not hacked at all. It was not opening for sometime because the load on the particular server was too heavy due to huge number of hits after the news of website hacking spread. It went slow at that time due to over-traffic,” Congress party's computer department chief Vishwajeet Prithvijeet Singh said.
Anonymous Central had earlier tweeted, "Namaste #India, your time has come to trash the current government and install a new one. Good luck."
The latest attack is one among many in recent times. Hackers had broken into Congress websites last December and defaced party chief Sonia Gandhi's profile page with objectionable material. The cyber attack coincided with Gandhi's 65th birthday.
That attack came just days after telecom minister Kapil Sibal asked social media networks, including Facebook and Twitter, to remove offensive material from their websites.
In June 2010, classified data from an army major’s computer was found to have been transferred to a Pakistani ISI operative. Two senior Indian diplomats found their email accounts were hacked in Beijing last year.

The Indian youth is satisfied with the act of anonymous hacker's act, which clearly shows the unhappiness of the Indian's toward it's government.

Anonymous Takes Down Indian supreme Court and congress websites!!!

acker collective Anonymous has announced it has taken down India’s Supreme Court and All India Congress websites.
Anonymous announced the attack via Twitter, claiming the reason is “Internet censorship” and suggesting India should “install” a new government.
Both websites are available but slow at the time of this writing.
India’s government asked Google, Facebook and other internet companies to censor content from users in India before posting it, a New York Times report revealed in December 2011.
This is probably a good enough reason for Anonymous to take action. The group has been busy this year, despite several arrests of its members or people somehow tied to the collective. It “hacked” Syria’s president’s email, taken down CIA’s website as well as websites belonging to CBS and Universal Music.

Cannot close option of nuclear power: Indian PM

Strongly favouring nuclear power, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said there would be no compromise on safety of atomic plants and it would be harmful to close the additional source of energy. "It would be harmful for the country to pass an ordinance on denial of nuclear power," Singh said replying to supplementaries during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha.
An Indian Nuclear power plant.

He was replying to question by Anant Geete (member of an Indian political party) on whether India would do a re-think on nuclear power in the post-Fukushima scenario in which Germany and Japan have announced that they would give up atomic energy.
"We must keep the option of having nuclear power as an additional source of energy open," Singh said.
He said there would be no compromise on the safety of nuclear power plants.
Singh said after the Fukushima accident of March 2011, he had ordered a complete review of all the 20 operating nuclear power reactors across the country and none of them has reported any incident.
"Our view is that when it comes to safety, there will be no compromise," the Prime Minister said.

Software piracy costs record $63.4 billion in 2011-emerging economies the main culprits.

Software piracy cost the industry a record $63.4 billion globally in 2011 with emerging economies listed as the main culprits, an annual study said Tuesday.

This was up nearly eight percent from the previous record of $58.8 billion in 2010, the Business Software Alliance (BSA) said in the study.

Software piracy cost the industry a record $63.4 billion globally in 2011 with emerging economies listed as the main culprits, an annual study has said
In the Asia Pacific, which comprises several emerging economies including China, bootleg software usage also cost the industry an all-time high of $21 billion last year, up 12 percent from 2010, BSA said.

Emerging markets had an average piracy rate of 68 percent, far exceeding the 42 percent global average and 24 percent in mature economies, according to the study which is based on a survey of about 15,000 computer users in 33 markets.

These markets account for 82 percent of the global PC market.

"Emerging economies, which in recent years have been the driving force behind PC software piracy, are now decisively outpacing mature markets in their rate of growth," said the study carried out in January and February.

"They took in 56 percent of the world's new PC shipments in 2011, and they now account for more than half of all PCs in use," it added.

"Emerging economies thus continue to account for an overwhelming majority of the global increase in the commercial value of pirated software."

China was the worst in Asia when it comes to software piracy with almost $9.0 billion worth of computer programmes obtained illegally in 2011, compared to a legal software market of only $2.65 billion.

While the US has the largest pirated market estimated at $9.8 billion, it also has the world's largest legal software sales valued at over $41 billion, BSA said.

"The thing about the (Asia Pacific) region is that PC growth is booming. PC growth in the region is growing at nine percent but piracy is coming down at one percent annually," said Roland Chan, BSA's senior director for regional marketing.

"So governments need to do more to bring down the rate at a faster rate to match the rapid PC growth," he told AFP.

Washington-based BSA is a non-profit trade body that works for copyright protection and counts among its members some of the world's biggest technology companies, including Apple, Microsoft,Symantec and Adobe.
